It’s 1949, and you’re in the studio audience.

This November, the Dukes of Harmony turn Lawrence Park Community Church into a radio station. There’s a microphone, an ON AIR sign, an announcer with a script, and voices in four-part harmony, no instruments, no backing track, nothing but the sound four notes make when they lock in and produce a fifth one that nobody on stage is actually singing.

Between the songs, we’re doing something we’ve never done before. Our announcer sits down with one of our own, a Duke who first walked into a rehearsal when the chorus was a mere decade old, and who has been standing on our risers ever since. His story is the story of this chorus, and it takes us from Cabaret and Ain’t Misbehavin’ through Georgia, Country Roads, and Climb Every Mountain. Six decades in one chorus does something you can’t rehearse into a section.

We’re joined by Voices Unlimited, the Ontario mixed chorus that has gone from founding to world champions in under two years. And because a broadcast needs listener participation, everyone gets a card at the door for a round of Barbershop Bingo, with prizes, and no purchase necessary.
